Friends remember Pawtucket shooting victim

PAWTUCKET, RI – One day after a man was fatally shot at a home in Pawtucket, friends of the victim, Matthew Reverdes, 29, are speaking out about the incident.

"I was speechless,” said Taisha Jimenez, a close friend of Reverdes.  "It’s so mind-boggling. I don’t know why someone can do that to him. He was such a sweet man."

Jimenez described the Pawtucket resident as funny, generous, and said above all, he was a one-of-a-kind father.

"He was such a great father. Anyone can grow a soft spot for a great father, you know? There’s not many,” she said.

"His daughter came before anything. His daughter was his world," said Rakim Sanders over the phone.  Sanders was one of Reverdes’ best friends who currently is playing professional basketball in Italy.

"I was just talking to him the other day, this is unreal,” Sanders added.

Jonathan Teixeira told ABC6 News he knew Reverdes since Elementary school, and that he owns the house Reverdes lived in.  He found out about the murder through text message while deployed overseas in Kuwait.

“I own the house he lived in… he had just texted me that day and by the time I responded, he was already gone,” Teixeira said.  “It was a shock to me, I couldn’t believe it.”

Reverdes ran to a nearby Dunkin Donuts after being shot once inside of a house on Harrison street, just after 4pm on Halloween day. He was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. Police have not made any arrests in connection to the murder.

Meanwhile, friends told ABC6 news they don’t know why anyone would kill Reverdes.

"I’ve never heard of him having any type of issues where someone would want to take his life,” said Jimenez.
