Funeral held for fallen Worcester police officer

WORCESTER, M.A. (WLNE) — Nearly 10,000 police officers from across the state and across the country lined the streets of Worcester Thursday morning, to pay their final respects to fallen Worcester Police Officer, Manny Familia.

Familia died last Friday trying to save a 14-year-old-boy from drowning in Green Hill Pond.

Unfortunately, both Familia and teenager Troy Love passed away following the incident.

A horse-drawn carriage transported Officer Familia’s body from the Mercadante Funeral Home to St. John’s Catholic Church, where his funeral was held.

Familia’s brother’s Elvin and Eric delivered the eulogy and emphasized just how much family and his kids meant to Officer Manny Familia.

Familia was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Worcester at a young age.

He served 5 years as a Worcester police officer. Prior to that, he was an officer at Clark University and Quinsigamond Community College.

Familia was just 38 years old and leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter.
