Gabe Amo celebrates winning Democratic nomination in CD1 special election in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Tuesday was an exciting night at The Guild in Pawtucket as Gabe Amo won the democratic nomination in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District special primary election.

Amo spent the night soaking up his victory and taking photos with family and friends.

Sen. Sandra Cano stopped by The Guild to congratulate Amo, he also received a celebratory call from Democratic House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries.

According to Black Lives Matter PAC Rhode Island, Amo is now the state’s first person of color elected as the state’s Democratic nominee for congress, making this a historic election for the Ocean State.

ABC 6 News anchor Alyssa Azzara caught up with Amo after winning Tuesday’s election.

“I am overwhelmed but I am so energized, I am still energized, as I was, I saw many of you today along the trail, because we have so much work to do for Rhode Islanders but I know this is a momentous occasion,” Amo said.

“Being the Democratic nominee for congress here in the 1st Congressional District, with the journey I’ve had, growing up in the streets of Pawtucket that we are in, to being able to be on the cusp of representing people through the 1st District is so meaningful to me and I’m so excited,” he continued.
