Garden City Center, Warwick Mall to close at 4 p.m. Tuesday after rumors of planned looting circulate

Cranston Mayor Alan Fung has implemented an 8 p.m. curfew on Tuesday. 

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) -The Warwick Mall and The Garden City Center in Cranston closed early on Tuesday after rumors circulated online of planned looting at the two locations.

The Garden City Center announced on Facebook that stores and restaurants within the center would close their doors at 4 p.m. due to safety concerns.

The LA Fitness, Crate & Barrel, and Sephora in the Garden City Center and the nearby Shaw’s all boarded up their windows in case looters struck the area.

The National Guard arrived on scene just before 8:00 p.m. to close off roadways surrounding the shopping center. A National Guard helicopter also flew overhead periodically to monitor the situation.


Cranston Police say they are aware of reports of possible looting Tuesday night and are prepared. City and State Police blocked off every entrance to the shopping plaza.

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung has implemented an 8 p.m. curfew on Tuesday that will last until 5:oo a.m.

The General Manager of the Warwick Mall, Domenic Scheivone, said due to last nights incidents in Providence, the Warwick Mall is working closely with the Warwick PD and R.I. state officials. The Warwick Mall will be closing at 4 p.m. today, Scheivone said.

Warwick Police haven’t returned ABC6’s calls for comment.
