‘GO, FRIARS!’: Show off your Providence College pride with new license plates

The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles shares this photo of the Providence College license plates.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — If you’re a Friars fan, you’re in luck, because you will now be able to show off your Providence College pride with new license plates.

The Division of Motor Vehicles said a license plate distribution event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 4 in the lobby of Schneider Arena. Those picking up their plates that day will need to bring a copy of their current car registration or their existing plates.

Anyone who goes to Providence College on Aug. 4 to pick up their plates will not have to go to the DMV.

However, those who can’t make it will need to the DMV after Aug. 4 to pick up their plates.

According to the Friars’ website, the cost of the license plate is $40, plus the normal vehicle registration fee, which is set by Rhode Island.

Of that $40 first-time fee, $20 will go to the DMV to cover plate production costs and fees and $20 will go to Providence College.

The college plans to deposit the $20 from each license plate order into its Angel Fund — which helps students of families facing financial challenges to stay at the school.

“Drive safely and display those new PC plates proudly,” wrote the school. “GO, FRIARS!”
