Police identify Good Samaritan killed on I-495 in Raynham

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) – Massachusetts State Police have identified the Good Samaritan who was killed early Friday morning on I-495 in Raynham.

Luis Contreras, 37, of Taunton, was killed when he pulled over on the highway to help another driver.

According to police, shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, an Audi that was driven by a 44-year-old man from Chesapeake, VA, was traveling southbound on I-495 in the area of the Route 104 overpass when the driver struck a deer. The vehicle, occupied by two adults and a 7-year-old child, became disabled in the middle lane of the highway.

That’s when Contreras, driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup, pulled into the breakdown lane to help the vehicle that struck the deer.

Police say Contreras exited his truck and walked onto the roadway to offer his assistance when he was struck by an Infiniti that was driven by a 21-year-old man from Rockland.

Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say neither the driver of the Audi or the Infiniti were injured.

Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate.
