FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) – The injured goose rescued by animal control officers in Fall River Wednesday has undergone successful surgery to remove the arrow through its body.

The New England Wildlife Center’s Zak Mertz said the goose was brought to the center’s Cape Cod branch in Barnstable after it was recovered by Fall River Animal Control and Mass Wildlife officers Wednesday.

Mertz said onsite veterinarians anesthetized the animal and were able to successfully remove the arrow. Despite some complications, the goose survived the surgery and is now in recovery.

The New England Wildlife Center said the goose’s post-op vital signs are starting to improve, however his prognosis is still guarded.
