Gov. McKee, local officials celebrate electric bus charging station

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee was joined by state leaders and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of Rhode Island’s new electric bus in-line charging stations Friday.

McKee was joined by Providence mayor Jorge Elorza, Sen. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, and Cranston mayor Ken Hopkins for the celebration.

The governor’s office says the new charging stations and event will be on Montgomery Ave. in Cranston.

The stations will be able to charge three buses at the same time. It will be located along the R-Line, RIPTA’s most frequent and highest-ridership route that connects Providence and Pawtucket.
