Gov. McKee: Rhode Island will accept refugees from Afghanistan

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Gov. Dan Mckee announced at his weekly press conference Tuesday that Rhode Island will accept refugees from Afghanistan.

Gov. McKee says local business owners have already reached out offering to hire refugees that come to the state.

McKee added that his administration is still working to figure out potential housing arrangements for those refugees.

“We’re not going to accept anything we can’t handle,” Gov. McKee said. “But we’re gonna provide any resources we can that will help.”

Rhode Island Congressman Jim Langevin lauding Gov. McKee saying:

“I’m proud that our state will receive our partners who have supported the U.S. military for nearly two decades.”
