PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Rhode Island passed the “heartbreaking milestone” of 3,000 COVID-19 related deaths on Tuesday.

The governor encouraged all Rhode Islanders to get vaccinated and boosted during his afternoon media briefing, calling the milestone a call to action.

“This is a moment that we will not forget and one that we hope will be a call to action to save countless more lives as we continue through this pandemic,” said McKee.

The state announced the widening of testing and vaccination options just a day prior.

“I am calling on you, Rhode Island, to roll up your sleeves for your fellow Rhode Islanders. If you are not yet vaccinated, please get your shot. If you are vaccinated, please get a booster,” the governor continued.

Gov. McKee said that the Rhode Island flag will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings until Wednesday evening, in honor of the 3,000 victims.

More information will be added at the time of the briefing.
