Gov. Raimondo: Shop locally for ‘Small Business Saturday’
By: The Associated Press
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo is encouraging residents to shop locally and support the state’s small businesses.
The Democratic governor, members of the congressional delegation and others are promoting this weekend’s “Small Business Saturday” with the Small Business Administration.
The group visited small businesses in Newport, Rhode Island, on Tuesday to encourage people to do the same in their communities on the busiest shopping weekend of the year for many people.
The SBA says there are more than 96,000 small businesses in Rhode Island, or about 96 percent of the state’s businesses.
Raimondo says small businesses are “the lifeblood of our economy” and she wants people to shop locally year-round.
U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat, says it’s a simple way to help boost the local economy.
