Governor recommends postponing Newport Saint Patrick’s Day parade

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Governor Raimondo recommended the City of Newport postpones or cancels the St. Patrick’s Day parade for concerns of COVID-19.

In a statement from the Governor’s office, it said: “the Governor’s top priority is containing the spread of coronavirus, and she is recommending that Newport postpone or cancel the parade in the interest of safety.”

This statement came one day after the Newport City Council voted to continue the parade as scheduled.
