Grants awarded to improve southern Rhode Island communities

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Rhode Island Foundation has awarded grants to seven nonprofits to improve communities in the southern part of the state.

Funding from its community grants program supports work ranging from creating performance spaces to keeping senior citizens healthy.

The Land Conservancy of North Kingstown received the largest grant, $10,000, to restore a historic walking path in Wickford Village.

The Watch Hill Conservancy received $9,400 to install signs to protect the Napatree Point Conservation Area and the town of Narragansett received $9,000 for landscaping and irrigation enhancements at an event venue.

Grants were awarded to install signs at a park in Westerly and along the Canonchet Nature Trail.

Grants were also awarded to purchase exercise equipment for seniors in South Kingstown and build a stage for community performances in Hopkinton.
