Groundbreaking on New Commuter Rail Station in NK

Several officials attended the groundbreaking of the Wickford Junction commuter train station in North Kingstown this morning, touting millions in federal dollars that have financed the project.
Senator Reed secured $32.6 million in federal money to help finance the project- some of that cash was provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The station would extend commuter rail service another 20 miles south from TF Green Airport. It's expected that for $2.75, riders could hop on the commuter train by URI and bypass the daily I-95 congestion all the way up to Providence.
According to the US Transportation Department, there are also plans to add a new commuter rail station in Pawtucket along the Providence-Boston line.
