NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal confirmed the historic Harborside Inn is a total loss and will be torn down after being destroyed by a fire.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, when the inn will be torn down has yet to be determined and will be decided by local officials.

Gov. Dan McKee said he’s working with the state’s Small Business Administration to help businesses impacted by the blaze.

No injuries were reported and the Block Island School is being used as an emergency shelter to house about 60 displaced hotel guests.

Ferry service into the island resumed Sunday morning.

Also on Monday, Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos and the Rhode Island Commerce visited the island to assess the damage of the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
