Hazmat protocol triggered after substance found on ACI inmate

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Multiple inmates at the ACI women’s facility were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution Wednesday after an unidentified white powder was found on an inmate.
J. R. Ventura, a spokesperson for the institution, told ABC6 the substance was found during a security check. Anyone who had been near the substance was taken to the hospital to be cleared.
No one sustained injuries or illness from the substance.
The substance has been sent to the Department of Health for testing.
