Head-On Crash in Warwick Sends Five Children to Hospital

A head-on collision on Centerville Road Friday night in Warwick sent several people to the hospital, including five children.

Warwick Police report that at about 9pm Friday a car driving westbound crossed the center line and slammed into a vehicle driving eastbound.  The driver of that eastbound vehicle had to be extracted by the Fire Department and was hospitalized with serious injuries.  The five children were all in the eastbound vehicle and were all hospitalized with injuries of “varying severity.”

The driver of the westbound vehicle, 42 year-old Sherry Damico of Lincoln, RI, was not injured in the crash but appeared intoxicated to police officers.  She failed a field sobriety test and the police got a warrant to test her blood.

Damico is charged with DUI, serious bodily injury resulting and a 2nd offense of refusal of a chemical test.  Police tell ABC6 that further charges might be filed as their investigation continues.

Police have asked anyone with additional information on the crash to contact the Warwick Police Traffic Division at 401-468-4343.
