Heavy rain causes flooding in Southern New England

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Heavy rain over Southern New England caused flooding throughout the area on Friday.

Cars in Fall River had to drive through the parking lot of a shopping plaza to avoid flooding on Pleasant Street at Plymouth Avenue.

Police were on scene at about 6 a.m. to help monitor traffic.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley reminded commuters to be aware of any flooding on their usual routes.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation reminded drivers amid flooding earlier this week to never try driving through standing water.

Drivers are advised to take their time amid heavy rain and thunderstorms.
