Help still needed to replace ‘tired’ volunteers with Serve RI

By Alana Cerrone

Volunteers are still needed to help shovel out elderly and disabled Rhode Islanders.

Serve Rhode Island says its volunteers have been working hard to shovel out those in need, but they are getting tired and need replacements.

Officials there say the organization has had 1,136 elderly and disabled residents request snow removal since January 26. 372 total have been assisted so far, done by only 110 volunteers who took assignments.

Some residents have not been able to get out of their homes since last Tuesday before the blizzard, so the organization is asking for many more volunteers beginning Thursday through Saturday.

Volunteers can sign up online at or go to for more information.

Elderly and disabled people needing snow removal help can call Serve Rhode Island at 401-331-2298.
