Henri’s impacts seen by onlookers at Oakland Beach

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Against Mayor Frank Picozzi’s warnings, some people in Warwick went to the shore to get a glimpse of Henri as the storm blew through the state.

One curious couple, Grace Williams and Richard Winkler, visiting from New Jersey, ventured out onto the rocks and luckily made it safely back to land.

“He said, ‘Let’s got look at the hurricane!’ So I’m like, hey, we don’t get a lot of these in Jersey, you know?” Williams said at Oakland Beach.

Mayor Picozzi expressed his worry about people going onto the rocks.

“We have 39 miles of coastline. I was afraid of a storm surge because we have a lot of low-lying areas and we have a lot of old trees in Warwick,” Picozzi said. “I’m grateful for the way it turned out.”

Thousands are still without power in Warwick. But it could have been much worse.
