NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The winners of this year’s Rhode Island high school organ donation poster contest will be awarded on Wednesday.

Newport Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravonga and Sen. Dawn Euer will join state officials in a ceremony at 10 a.m. at City Hall.

High school students across the state were asked to create art in support of New England Donor Services.

The non profit organization said 1,325 lives were saved by organ donation across New England last year. That showed an increase of 7.9% from 2021.

People can register as an organ or tissue donor to save the lives of others at the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles.
