Holiday Celebration hosted by The City of Providence this weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The City of Providence is embracing the holiday season by announcing a holiday celebration taking place over the next two days.

According to Mayor Jorge Elorza and the Department of Arts, Culture + Tourism and the Department of Parks & Recreation, the celebrations will take place Friday, December 2, 2016 from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m.

Two tree lighting ceremonies, local merchants along Westminster Street, special giveaways, performances from the Providence Gay Men’s Choir, and a world champion figure skating demonstration produced by two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan will be available for patrons to enjoy.

On Friday patrons can shop along Westminster Street, and at 5 p.m., a chorus of Providence City workers will perform on the steps of City Hall before the lighting of the Christmas Tree.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday the Alex & Ani Skating Center will host activities where another Christmas Tree will be lit.

The figure skating demonstration produced by two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan will take place after the Christmas Tree lightings

Patrons are encouraged to attend and to take advantage of the City’s Tax Free Zone on all art purchases between Dorrance and Empire Streets.
