Holiday weekend weather impact on local businesses

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- After a tough year through the pandemic, business are optimistic about this summer as restrictions start to lift.

Many business planned for a boost in business over the Fourth of July weekend. Now, planning for rain.

David Gravino, President and CEO of Iggy’s Doughboys and Chowder House told ABC6 although the weather is putting a damper on typical 4th traditions, his business, customers, and employees have all made it worthwhile.

A typical 4th of July in Oakland Beach consists of thousands of people heading to the beach for fireworks, and to Iggy’s for seafood and doughboys.

“We’d probably be on a two hour wait,” Gravino said when asked how his restaurant would typically look on the holiday weekend.

Oakland Beach’s fireworks were postponed from Saturday night to Sunday night. But Iggy’s customers are still rolling in.

“I’m really proud of my staff and we have people coming from all over and they’ll still be coming with the rain,” Gravino said.
