PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Grab your barley, hops, and yeast!  Homebrew Con is in Providence now through Saturday.

Brewers Association Marketing Director Ann Obenchain says, “Homebrew Con is the largest gathering of homebrewers, worldwide.  It’s the annual gathering.  This is our 41st year.”

This year’s theme is “Brew England.”  It’s the first time the conference has been held in New England since 1991’s Homebrew Con in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Obenchain says, “There’s more than 70 seminars over three days, teaching everything from the basics of brewing to the finer points of the science of brewing.”

Organizers say as the craft beer trend continues to grow, so does the popularity of homebrewing.

Jill Marilley from Everett, Washington has been home brewing for 8 years.

Marilley says, “It was a chance to see Providence.  I mean, we don’t always get there.  People always think of Boston or New York.”

She says brewing your own beer isn’t nearly as difficult as you may think.

Marilley says, “I never want people to be scared away from homebrewing, because they think ‘Oh, the beer I like is probably really hard to make.’ It probably isn’t, give it a try.”

To attend, you need to be a Homebrewers Association member, but you can join right at the conference.

You can also get started with a local club of homebrewers.
