Hospitals in Rhode Island to resume non-emergency surgeries starting Monday

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – Starting Monday all non-emergency surgeries can resume at Care New England hospitals like Kent and Women & Infants.

All hospital staff and patients are wearing masks and getting their temperature taken when they walk into the building.

Also, when a patient schedules a surgery they will be tested for COVID-19 ahead of time. This is to make sure the patient is not asymptomatic.

A Care New England Hospital doctor says hospitals are safer than ever. He adds that patients should not be afraid to schedule a surgery or procedure.

“These are surgeries that are necessary for people’s health and well being and we have delayed them because of concerns on capacity at the hospital because of covid,” Dr, Raymond Powrie says. “We now feel we have the capacity.”
