Human skull fragment found in West Warwick woods

Police are investigating a fragment of a human skull found in the woods of West Warwick.
On Sunday, a resident walking through the woods behind Crossbow Lane found what appeared to be the top of a skull.
The resident called State Police, who took the skull fragment to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The skull was discolored and appeared to have been out in the elements for a long time.
An initial report from the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the fragment is in fact the top of a human skull, but no further details regarding the age or other identifying characteristics were made available at this time.
State Police and West Warwick Detectives are continuing a joint investigation in the area to locate additional evidence. Anyone with information possibly relating to the investigation is asked to call State Police at 401-444-1046.
