‘I would never let someone’s kid feel like that and get killed’: Mother of Providence shooting victim demanding justice

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — During a vigil in Providence Sunday night, the mother of the 15-year-old boy who was shot and killed the night before spoke out.

The family identified the victim as Ger’Vonte Tilson.

Marisol Tilson described her son as a contagious person, a mama’s boy, and someone who didn’t deserve what happened to him.

Now, she’s calling for justice.

“Fifteen-year-olds shouldn’t be gunned down in these streets,” said Tilson at Sunday night’s vigil.

She said her 15-year-old son played basketball, made music, was a big brother to two younger siblings, and had his own baby on the way.

“To know that my son was running from house to house begging for help and people just watched him out the window and watched him die and that’s heart-wrenching because as a mother I would never I would never let someone’s kid feel like that and get killed,” Tilson said to ABC 6 News.

Heartbroken friends, family, and neighbors mourned at the site of the shooting on Wallace Street. Tilson said anyone who knew her son loved him.

“He was a 15-year-old kid, that should still be here. There’s no other way to put it.”

Now, Tilson is demanding justice and hopes police catch the person responsible for her son’s death.

“And I hope and pray that the detectives, and everybody, do what they’re supposed to do and they find who did this to my son,” said the heartbroken mother.
