‘If something does happen, it’s not as big of a shock’: Bristol County Sheriff’s Office offers emergency training for school security guards

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office offered emergency training for Fall River school security guards this summer.

The security guards went through the training program focused on facility security, suicide prevention, weapon searches, emergency first aid, as well as other things.

This is the 12th summer that the sheriff’s office’s homeland security team has offered such training for security guards.

The program also went over case studies on past school emergencies, such as the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas.

“I feel the more exposure to these situations, the better suited we’ll be in something ever does happen,” security guard John Carr said Tuesday morning. “If something does happen, it’s not as big of a shock.”
