In Search of The Cycledrome

Local sports fans immediately recognize the names Fenway and Foxboro, but what about “Cycledrome?”

The Cycledrome, a combination bicycle race track and football field on Providence's North Main Street, was built in 1925 and soon thereafter became the home to the NFL team that won a championship long before the Pats did – the Providence Steam Roller.

Now, decades after it was torn down, the Cycledrome's rich history is relegated to a plaque somewhere inside an abandoned supermarket.

But Frank DiPaolo – better known as the longtime doorkeeper at the Rhode Island State House and close friend of former US Representative Patrick Kennedy – hasn't forgotten about any of the things that made the stadium so important to Rhode Islanders.

Tonight, ABC6 Anchor Andrew Gobeil takes us in search of the Cycledrome.
