In Studio: Warwick Bans De-Vocalization of Pets
It's now illegal to remove the vocal chords of pets in the city of Warwick.
De-vocalization is a surgical procedure used on household pets – mostly dogs – to limit the volume of their barks or meows.
Critics of the procedure say it's inhumane and that excessive vocalization by pets is something that training can address, without having to resort to surgery.
Warwick City Councilman Joe Solomon introduced the ordinance recently and it passed easily last night. He joined John Deluca in our downtown Providence studios to talk about why he felt it necessary to make it illegal in Warwick.
