Increased police presence at Barrington High School following written threat

Superintendent says increased police patrol remains till winter break

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE)- Barrington Police and K9’s were patrolling the grounds of Barrington High School Tuesday.

The increased presence follows a written threat being found in the girls bathroom on Monday.

Students tell ABC6 they’re worried about their safety.

ABC6 spoke with students today who said, many left school early today or didn’t show up at all.

Parents and students are now requesting that classes be held virtually till this situation is resolved.

A petition demanding that action among others currently has more than 2,000 signatures .

The School’s Superintendents Micheal B. Messore sent an update Tuesday that reads in part..

“As we look to the future, proactive strategies to defend against threats and gun violence are critical. If you live in town and own a firearm, please physically account for it today. As always, ensure any guns are locked and stored safely and securely under state law. Importantly, we are looking at engaging with outside experts to provide family and community gun safety and violence prevention sessions.”
