Intersection shut down in Lincoln following early morning crash

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – River Road and Front Street in Lincoln are temporarily closed this morning as National Grid crews work to fix a utility pole that was knocked down.

At around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, a 36-year-old Lincoln man was allegedly driving under the influence when he hit a utility pole, and continued down Smithfield Avenue when he hit a parked car.

The man was arrested on charges of suspicion of driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit a chemical test, and other traffic violations that are unclear at this time.

The intersection will be shut down this morning until further notice, it is suggested that driver seek an alternate route.
