‘It was a lot for this neighborhood’: Witnesses react to police chase that ended in Cranston pond

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A police chase led to a crash in Cranston Tuesday with the suspect then hiding in a pond before being arrested.

Video shared with ABC 6 News showed the aftermath of that head-on collision just after 5 p.m. on Lakeside Drive.

Angelica Acker, a neighbor who witnessed the chase, told ABC 6 this was something out of the ordinary, calling it “super crazy and scary.”

“It was a lot for this neighborhood. This stuff doesn’t happen around here. It’s cozy, it’s quiet. Kids ride around on their bikes. It’s just a friendly neighborhood,” said Acker.

Chief Michael Winquist said Tuesday Yohnni Tetreault lost control of his car and hit two cars.

Tetreault, who’s 25 years old, then got out of his car and ran into Fenner Pond, where he hid for about an hour from officers. He was later arrested.

“I am so thankful he was caught and everything turned quiet and I hope things don’t continue like that here,” said the neighbor.

The 25-year-old faced a Kent County District Court Wednesday, where he pled no contest to several charges, including simple assault of a police officer and driving on a suspended license.
