PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Bishop Thomas Tobin on Tuesday criticized a popular North Kingstown doughnut shop over an alleged pro-choice stance.

The bishop tweeted that he’s hearing Allie’s Donuts is raising money for Planned Parenthood, adding that if that’s true, “it’s an unfortunate decision.”

Earlier this month, a draft opinion circulated that suggested the U.S. Supreme Court would overturn the 1973 case Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide.

Tobin added that “Catholics, and others concerned about protecting human life, might want to buy their donuts elsewhere.”

This isn’t the first time this iconic Rhode Island doughnut shop has taken a stand on hot political debates. Two years ago, Allie’s Donuts said it would no longer offer military or police discounts after an alleged racial profiling of a Providence firefighter.
