Ivy Honors for Brown’s Kuakumensah and Maia

Providence, R.I. – Brown junior forward Cedric Kuakumensah (Worcester, Mass.) and senior forward Rafael Maia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) have been named to the 2015 All-Ivy Men’s Basketball Team as selected by the eight Ancient Eight men’s basketball coaches.  Kuakumensah earned second team All-Ivy honors, while Maia earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition.

A two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year (2013 and 2014), Kuakumensah led the Ivy League with 76 blocked shots and ranked fifth in the league in rebounding with 7.4 per game. He holds the Brown school record for blocked shots in a career with 235, and ranks second in the Ivy League in all-time blocked shots.  Kuakumensah, who scored a season high 23 points vs. Harvard on the last day of the season, led the Bears in scoring with 11.2 points per game.

Maia averaged a double-double in Ivy League games, scoring 11.4 points per game and grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game in league games. He also led the Ivy League in overall rebounding for the third consecutive season with an 8.7 rpg average.  Maia was the Ivy League’s top shooter, connecting on 100-of-186 field goals (.538).  He posted seven double-doubles and recorded season highs of 19 points vs. Dartmouth and 16 rebounds vs. Princeton, Johnson & Wales and Dartmouth.
