JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – A man has died following an accident with a piece of industrial equipment Thursday morning in Jamestown.

Jamestown Police and Jamestown Fire and Rescue responded to a home on Walnut Street around 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports that the homeowner was injured by a skid steer machine.

First responders located the 86-year-old male homeowner suffering from severe injuries.

The victim was transported to Newport Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigation by Police determined that a landscape contractor working for Atlantic Lawn and Garden was operating a skid steer brush cutter at the request of the property owner.

Police said the victim entered the area in which the contractor was working and at some point fell to the ground.

The operator of the vehicle, unaware of the victim’s presence, backed up the skid steer, striking the victim.

The incident remains under investigation.
