Joe Kennedy III announced as U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland

WASHINGTON D.C. — (WLNE) — The United States Department of State announced Monday that Joe Kennedy III is being appointed as a special envoy to Northern Ireland for economic affairs.

In a press release, the department of state said Kennedy will focus on advancing economic development and investment opportunities in Northern Ireland.

According to the department, his role builds on the long-standing U.S. committment to supporting peace, prosperity and stability of the region.

Kennedy has dedicated his time to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving as Massachusetts Assistant District Attorney as well as the Peace Corps.

The department says he draw from his extensive experience to support economic growth in Northern Ireland and to deepen U.S. engagement with all communities.
