Johnston neighborhood calls for changes after another pedestrian hit

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Residents in a Johnston neighborhood were calling for changes after another pedestrian was hit by a vehicle, in the same area, on Tuesday.

According to emergency responders, the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. after she and a male companion darted into the middle of Killingly Street in front of Shannon Motors.

Johnston police told ABC 6 News that the driver swerved, so he would not hit the man wearing all black, and that is when he accidentally hit the woman.

Some neighbors wanted to see the speed limit lowered and more patrol officers present in the area after Tuesday’s incident and three years after a woman was killed in front of the Cumberland Farms several blocks down the road.

“I find it kind of dangerous, because of all the cars that go down here. It’s such a busy road and it’s a main road that the cars just go flying,” neighbor Kyle Iannuccillo said.

Police said the driver was not facing any charges and the woman, who was hit, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
