Johnston police officer charged in sex trafficking operation

JOHNSTON, RI (WLNE) – A police officer in Johnston has been charged in a sex trafficking operation.

Viet Hung Nguyen of Brockton was one of five Massachusetts men arrested in a sting operation conducted by Massachusetts State Police.

The Providence Journal reports, that he agreed to pay an undercover officer posing as an escort $100 for a “quick visit.”

Nguyen clicked on an advertisement for sex posted online by police, telling the undercover officer that he wanted “to do everything” and asking if she was working for herself, according to a police report.

Nguyen was arrested by police when he knocked on the door of a decoy room at a hotel in Rockland.

Nguyen plead not guilty and was released on personal recognizance with his next court date set for September.

He is on paid leave with the Johnston police department.
