Judge rejects bid from ex-Patriots player to toss evidence

BOSTON (AP) _ A judge has rejected a request from lawyers for Aaron Hernandez to invalidate a search warrant that led police to seize a vehicle they say the former New England Patriots player was driving when he allegedly shot two men in 2012.

Hernandez is awaiting trial in the killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston.

Hernandez’s lawyer argued that anything gleaned from the search of a Toyota 4Runner should be suppressed because the warrant was partly based on information from a key witness who gave deceptive answers on a lie detector test.

Judge Jeffrey Locke ruled Friday that even without information from the witness, a judge could have found probable cause for the search warrant. The judge also rejected an attempt by Hernandez’s lawyers to dismiss a witness intimidation charge.
