Juvenile crashes car through Smithfield music store

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield Police Department said a juvenile crashed a car through the front of a music store on Putnam Pike Wednesday night.

According to police, the juvenile, driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson SUV, was traveling east through the intersection at Austin Avenue when it continued straight into the front of the Music Complex store.

Police said the driver and passengers involved claimed the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the crash. The cause remains under investigation.

Significant damage was reported to the building and the car but no injuries were reported by anyone in the car or inside the store.

The SUV was towed from the scene and the building was boarded up shortly after.

No charges have been filed at this time.
