A new Johnson & Wales University building is one of the first announced facilities being built on the newly available I-195 land in Providence.

The 60,000-square foot, $40 million building at the corner of Friendship and Chestnut Streets will house JWU’s School of Engineering & Design and College of Arts & Sciences’ new biology program that launches this fall.

Construction, set to begin in April 2015, is scheduled to be completed in July 2016.

“As we enhance our physical landscape, we also are continuing to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of higher education. A year ago, in alignment with our strategic plan, Johnson & Wales began a meaningful transformation of our academic division, more properly aligning schools and programs to anticipate market demand for graduates and more effectively providing the practical and knowledge-based skills those graduates need to succeed,” said JWU Chancellor John J. Bowen.
