Kasim Hill Granted Eligibility Extension, QB Will Return To URI For 2023 Season

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island quarterback Kasim Hill has been granted an extension of eligibility waiver from the NCAA, meaning he will be back with the Rams for the 2023 season.The ruling officially came on Thursday, giving Hill a seventh season of eligibility. It is a significant development for the program, as Hill has been the team’s starting quarterback for each of the last three seasons, appearing in 25 game since transferring from Tennessee. Rhode Island has a 16-9 record since he joined the program, including a 7-4 record each of the last two seasons. Hill needles five wins as a starter to pass the legendary Tom Ehrhardt for the most in program history. Ehrhardt was 20-6 from 1984-85.Hill began at Maryland in 2017, starting two of the three games he played before suffering a season-ending injury. In 2018, he was the Terps’ starting quarterback for 10 games, throwing for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns. Hill transferred to Tennessee, where he was on the scout team in 2019.He arrived in Kingston for the 2020 season, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused that season to be played in the spring. Hill started all three games before the season was called off due to the pandemic. All student-athletes that season were granted an extra season of eligibility. He has appeared in all 25 possible games since he joined the Rams, starting 24 times.One of the most prolific quarterbacks in program history, Hill is third in Rhode Island history in both passing yards (5,156) and passing touchdowns (39). His also is fourth in total offense (5,733), fifth in completions (363), eighth in completion percentage (.542) and ninth in rushing touchdowns (15). He is one of two players in URI history to be ranked in the top five in career touchdown passes and touchdown runs.Last season, he ranked 16th among all FCS in points responsible for per game, averaging 15.1 while leading the Rams. Rhode Island was 36th nationally in scoring average at 30.6 points per game.Rhode Island opens the 2023 season at Georgia State on Aug. 31.
