Kubel 5 RBI To Lead Twins Over Yankees

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Jason Kubel ended Minnesota's long power

drought in a big way, belting two home runs and driving in five

runs in the Twins' 8-2 victory over the New York Yankees on

Thursday night.

Kubel hit a solo homer in the sixth, a three-run shot in the

seventh and had an RBI double for the Twins, who had gone eight

games and 349 plate appearances without a home run before the lefty

broke the skid.

Robinson Cano had two hits and two RBIs and Mark Teixeira had

two hits for the Yankees, who took two of three games in the

series.

Nick Blackburn (6-1) gave up two runs and nine hits in seven

innings to help Minnesota beat the Yankees for just the second time

in 13 games.

Javier Vazquez (3-5) allowed five runs and eight hits in 5 2-3

innings and took the loss.
