NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will install a lane split for both directions of Route 146 in North Providence on Friday night.

The lane split will be at the bridges over Mineral Spring Avenue and Charles Street for about six weeks.

Crews will use the time to improve both bridges including a new median barrier and paving.

One lane will be open on each side of the split.

Drivers on Route 146 south will need to take the right lane at the split to get to the Mineral Spring Avenue exit.

Oversized trucks will need to use detours on Interstate 95 or 295.

The work is part of the Bridge Group 39 project, which also includes a replacement of the Breakneck Hill Road and Twin River Road bridges over Route 146 in Lincoln.
