Letter: Brown quotes PawSox $15M for stadium land

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Brown University has told the Pawtucket Red Sox that it would sell university-owned land the team wants to use for a stadium for $15 million, or lease it for $1 million per year.

In a letter sent Tuesday to negotiators and obtained by The Associated Press on Friday, Brown executive Russell Carey says the amount would make the university “whole” for its investment in the site in downtown Providence.

The property, less than an acre, is just a slice of the land the team has proposed to use for a stadium. The state owns the rest.

Carey says that the given that the two sides are far apart, it’s not beneficial to continue discussions.

Gov. Gina Raimondo said Friday that increasing costs make her less optimistic the project will happen.
