Lifespan marks 1,000 coronavirus patients discharged

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)– Lifespan, the healthcare group behind several of the state’s hospitals, has now successfully treated over 1,000 coronavirus patients.

Lifespan hit the milestone over the past weekend, a moment that gave pause to the dozens of healthcare workers that have been working on the front lines of the pandemic.

Dr. John Murphy, president of Rhode Island Hospital, said the success should be shared among all the hospital’s employees.

“We just want to acknowledge what people are doing,” Murphy said. “Our physicians, our nurses, our respiratory therapists, the housekeepers. Everyone has just done a fantastic job.”

The tally came from all of Lifespan’s hospitals, including Miriam, Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Newport Hospital and Bradley Hospital.
