Lifespan receives first shipment of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Lifespan received approximately 3,000 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine at Rhode Island Hospital on Tuesday, completing the first shipment of 4,200 doses to the state’s healthcare system.

According to a release, 200 doses of the Moderna’s vaccine were delivered to Newport Hospital and 1,000 doses were delivered to the Miriam Hospital on Monday, as part of the state’s Phase 1 distribution plan.

The Pfizer vaccine was distributed last week to high-risk front-line health care workers across each hospital site.

Lifespan received about 5,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and have administered the first dose to approximately 3,000 employees.

“Lifespan is first vaccinating employees at highest risk, including providers and staff who have direct contact with COVID+ patients or COVID+ infectious fluids or materials,” said Director of Public Relations, Kathleen Hart, in a release.  “Lifespan’s goal is to vaccinate all employees over the next several months.”
