Lincoln man arrested in felony animal abuse case

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) – A Lincoln man has been arrested after an investigation into a case of sexual abuse against an animal.

Michael Woodhead, 38, was arrested at his Smithfield Avenue home overnight following a lengthy investigation by Lincoln Police and the RISPCA.

Police said the investigation stems from reports in February of a dog owned by Woodhead being sexually abused. After veterinary evaluations, the dog being removed from Woodhead’s home, and further investigation, he was arrested.

Woodhead was arraigned Wednesday morning on the following charges:

  • One felony count of abominable and detestable crime against nature
  • One misdemeanor count of unnecessary cruelty to animals
  • One misdemeanor count of Failure to Provide Dog Adequate Food/Water/Care (repeat offender)

Woodhead was released on $10,000 personal recognizance. He is due back in court in September.
