A South Kingstown craft distillery is bringing home the industry's most prestigious award.

Sons of Liberty founder Mike Reppucci accepted the “World's Best” award Thursday night at the World Whiskies Awards in London. The local company won in the category of “Best Flavored Whiskey” for its seasonal Pumpkin Spice whiskey.

The World Whiskies Awards are Whisky Magazine's product awards honoring the best whiskies in the world. More than 350 whiskies were taste-tested in this year's competition, and only 10 went on to receive a “World's Best” award.

Reppucci is a graduate of Brown University, and he got accustomed to drinking high-end Scotch while studying at London Business School. When he returned to the U.S., he was inspired to create something similar but with a uniquely American flavor.

“We founded Sons of Liberty to redefine American craft whiskey from a corn-based bourbon to complex whiskies distilled from flavorful beers,” says Reppucci. “It is a tremendous honor to receive the ultimate recognition for our efforts with this year's “World's Best” award, not only for us, but for everyone who helped make this whiskey. From grains to bottle and all the pumpkins in between, so many Rhode Islanders are part of this win.”
